Legendary director Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Batwara 1947’ is one of the heart-touching tales based on Asghar Wajahal’s popular drama Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai.
The protagonist of the movie is Sikandar Mirza (Sunny Deol), who resides in Meerut with his wife Hamida (Preiti Zinta), son Javed (Karan Deol), and daughter Tanvir (Khushi Hajare). On August 14, 1947, India finally gained its independence, which makes him very pleased. Sikandar was forced to flee to Pakistan due to the sectarian rioting that occurred in that place during India’s partition. He travels to Lahore, Pakistan, after leaving India with his family. After a protracted battle, he is eventually given a house, but it belongs to an elderly Hindu woman (Shabana Azmi) who, unbeknownst to her, lost her entire family in sectarian rioting and is still waiting for them to return. Sikandar did not first approve of her staying, but over time, he began to regard her as his mother. But was it really so simple for Sikandar to defend a Hindu woman in Lahore, as most riots affected cities that are now a part of Pakistan? The story’s true core is its climax. Therefore, one needs to watch it to find out what occurs at the conclusion.
The film appears to be made from Pakistan’s point of view at first, but as the plot develops toward its conclusion, it becomes more emotional and concentrates on the religion of humanity rather than Hindu-Muslim. The emotional angle is too high, especially post-interval.
The real draw of the film is Sunny Deol’s action scenes. He has performed a number of intense action scenes with strong blows. All things considered, Sunny Deol is the main attraction. The movie also features actor Abhimanyu Singh. He has portrayed a villain who is located in Lahore. He clearly justifies his role, and his activity level is excessively high. Other attractions include actors like Shabana Azmi and Preiti Zinta. They have made an impact and performed their responsibilities well. The performances by Khushi Hajare, Karan Deol, and Ali Fazal are really commendable. All in all, each artist has performed their roles well.
