Nayyi Navelli, directed by Balaji Mohan and starring Yami Gautam and Adinath Kothare, aims to combine comedy, supernatural horror, mythology, and family drama into a unique cinematic experience. The movie centers on Mohini, a recently married woman whose seemingly flawless presence in the Awasthi household makes her brother-in-law Bantu suspicious that she might be a witch.
Mohini has a captivating blend of warmth and intrigue because to Yami Gautam’s on-screen presence and conviction. While Adinath Kothare adds to the film’s poignant moments, Anurag Thakur offers some much-needed comic relief. But sometimes the screenplay doesn’t provide enough material for the actors to keep the audience interested.
The film’s unique concept is its greatest asset. There is potential for a fun horror-comedy when family politics, supernatural themes, and Indian mythology are combined. Unfortunately, as the story goes on, the narrative gets overwhelming. The second half, which focuses heavily on mythology, finds it difficult to sustain the previous enthusiasm, and the humor loses some of its novelty. The background score supports the atmosphere, but the overall execution lacks consistency.
Despite having an intriguing concept, Nayyi Navelli finds it difficult to make it into a continuously captivating movie. Moments of interest are provided by Yami Gautam’s acting and the peculiar family dynamics, but the overall impact is diminished by the inconsistent scripting and frequent plot diversions.
An ambitious supernatural performer who makes more promises than they fulfill. The idea is novel, but the narrative needs more convincing climax, finer editing, and sharper humour.
