“Phool Aur Kaante,” which also marked the debut of actor Ajay Devgn, catapulted actress Madhoo into stardom. She built her name in the pan-Indian film business by acting in numerous South Indian films in addition to continuing her Bollywood success story after her first picture. Some of the popular films that elevated her acting career were Roja, Diljale, Diya Aur Toofan, Raavan Raaj, and Yashvant. She has recently worked in “Governor,” where her contribution is greatly valued. In an exclusive conversation with Yogesh Mishra, she discussed her early days in Bollywood, her time working with Manoj Bajpayee on “Governor,” her favorite aspects of herself, future projects, and more.
From Phool Aur Kaante to Governor, how has the journey been so far? What kind of changes do you personally feel in the industry?
From my first movie to governor a life happened so much life has happened in between some of it. I was on screen and some of it when I was completely out of the industry and that has shaped me as a person and that has also shaped me as an actor industry has changed and not changed. Both are true at the same time. Movies will always remain movies. It’s all about love emotions expressions and Actor can always act whether he acted in the 60s or in the 90s or in two days is worth but the way the world operates has changed. It has become more technical. It has become more perfect. There was more chaos back in the day now it seems to be all on the board the storyboard is complete before there were less comfort today. There are more comfort and I just feel it. It’s easy to be on the set today but as a artist as an artist to act and put out the best thing you always have to feel you always have to scratch your heart whether it was at that time or whether it is now.
What character are you playing in “Governor”?
In ‘Governor’ I play Mr Manoj Bajpai’s wife which is the governor‘s wife. It’s a smallish rule but to my mind I thought I was playing and very important role because my conversation taking from there the governor of the country makes big decisions and also to have a chemistry with Mr. Manoj Bajpai was very interesting and I’ve also seen the director’s work earlier work and I know that he knows how to handle sensitive and tender moments and I trusted him completely and I have absolutely no regrets..
How were your working experience with actor Manoj Bajpayee in “Governor”?
Working with him is an amazing experience because to know him as a human being is also equally amazing because I really feel an actor in the end is an extension of who you really are. You can be a learner you can and that comes through you can be hard-working and that comes true and you can be a simple unassuming human being and that comes true so from Manoj I’ve learned that to be a great actor. He’s equally a very good human being and it was amazing to work with him.
You have worked in many hit movies so far. Which is your personal favourite among them, and why?
Yes I have been a part of many many successful films and it would not be fair to say something as my favourite but since you’ve asked me this now my when Roja and Phool Aur Kaante happened I was very new many things happened unaware and now I’m waiting for it waiting to connect with the audience waiting to touch their hearts in the process I’ve done so with my recent releases a little bit with governor for sure but mostly with my new Tamil release Chinna Chinna say it brings me to tears as I feel it’s a full circle and as I feel it’s a divine blessing showered upon me to play a title role for a theatre release and to have made the connect with the audiences it’s just absolutely a gift and I don’t know how to hold it revere it love it cherish it and bow down to the divine
What attracts you more? money, beauty or intelligence?
Beauty intelligence and money in that order I’m attracted to all.
Which three qualities about yourself do you find most appealing?
The three qualities is that I am quick to forgive quick to forget as well in fact that is a secret of my happiness joy because I really don’t know how to hold anything for too long so I’m easily I let go of her pain as well as disappointments and I keep working and moving on with the new day and I love that I have the courage to hold it and be silent and I really do think that there is dignity in silence
What are your upcoming projects?
After releasing my two really important projects right now I have two more coming up this year. 1 is called the family business on Netflix with Anil Kapoor and Hansel Mehta and the other one is Chiranjeevi‘s Home production Jagame Sangeeta for Amazon Amazon Prime with Prakash Raj.
In case, if you have to change your industry, then what would be that?
If I were to change my profession from being an actress I think I would deal with anything that has to do with emotions divinity God psychology so whatever that means to you
Any message for the readers of Bollywood Town magazine?
What would I say to anyone and everyone who ever asks me this question? I would say that whatever it is you do in your life make sure it is you want to do it from your inner voice don’t do it for what you see outside don’t do it for seeing other people People‘s fame or whatever it is that Yours you if you want to be an actor ask yourself is it what you are in a being wants to be? Is it how your soul wants to express if you want to be a cricketer or a carpenter or a chef? Ask yourself and do it don’t do anything for the wrong reasons but once you know that is what you want to do. Don’t allow anybody to tell you that you are not right for it go for it.
