Director Nachiket Samant’s Single Salma is one of the finest comedy dramas of the year, starring Huma Qureshi, Shreyas Talpade, and Sunny Singh in pivotal roles.

The story revolves around Salma Rizvi (Huma Qureshi), an engineer in the UP-state government’s public works department based in Lucknow. Salma, being an elder and the only earning member of the family, takes the full responsibility of her sisters and a younger brother. Although her father, Mr. Rizvi, belongs to an old rich family, now his financial condition is not satisfactory. While taking care of the education and marriages of her siblings, she forgets her own personal life and becomes single even after the age of 30+. Salma’s mother is quite concerned about her and searches for a bride for her. Salma meets many, but nothing could work out because of her age bracket. Meanwhile, she meets Sikandar (Shreyas Talpade), who is around 40 but still single. Finally, marriage dates and everything were confirmed between these two families. A twist comes in Salma and Sikandar’s marriage when Salma goes to London on her official mission for two months just before marriage, where she falls in love with Meet (Sunny Singh), a British citizen of Indian origin. What now for Salma-Sikandar’s marriage? What happens with the newly developed, very personal relations between Salma and Meet? Whom will she marry now? To know the answers to these questions, one must watch the film.

Huma Qureshi had done a brilliant job. Her performance is simply good and quite appealing. Shreyas Talpade, on the other side, looked innocent and pleased the audience with his brilliant acting skills. He has fully justified his part. Actor Sunny Singh has also made his presence felt. Apart from these lead actors, other artists like Lauren Gottlieb, Kanwaljit Singh, and Kal Sabir have also done justice to their parts.

The direction of Nachiket Samant is simply good. The cinematography is good and captured Lucknow and London in the best possible ways. Although songs are not that entertaining, still it’s quite impressive.

Overall, this is one of the finest comedy dramas that will entertain the audience with its powerful storyline and, of course, the brilliant acting skills of Huma Qureshi and Shreyas Talpade. It’s an above-average film. So, why wait? Go and watch it in your nearest cinema hall.
