MUMBAI: Veteran actor and comedian Asrani, best known for his role as the jailer in Sholay, passed away today at the age of 84 on October 20, 2025, in Mumbai. He has appeared in over 300 Hindi films.

It is with deep sorrow that the Indian film fraternity and millions of admirers mourn the passing of veteran actor and comedian Govardhan Asrani, fondly known as Asrani. Born in Jaipur and trained at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, Asrani’s journey was marked by dedication, versatility, and an unmatched sense of comic timing that made him one of the most beloved faces of Indian entertainment.
