Only 3 to 4 crore people watch a hit movie in theatres: Rohit Shetty

MUMBAI, Jan. 07, 2026: Renowned Indian filmmaker Rohit Shetty said that only 3 to 4 crore people watch a movie in cinema halls in India despite having a population of almost 140 crores. He expressed his concern while addressing the media and present invited guests from the entertainment industry at the INCA announcement program yesterday at a five-star hotel in Mumbai.

Rohit Shetty said, “I think it’s one nation, one celebration, and one cinema. It should be, you know, that is Indian cinema. And the sad part about the footfall of any film is that all our producers and directors will agree to it. Our country has a population of 140 crore, and a blockbuster is a movie or the biggest hit, and when you count football, it’s just 3 crores to 4 crores, not more than that. Only 3 to 4 crore people watch movies in theatres. And the reason behind it is the language barrier or maybe the other reason.”
