Madhurima Roy, known for the web series Criminal Justice, realized she wanted to make a career in acting somewhere around 2016 when she got the opportunity to travel for a show for the Discovery Channel. Acting came very naturally to her since she’d always been into plays and art in school and college years. In an exclusive interview with Yogesh Mishra, she spoke about her role in the upcoming film Na Jaane Kaun Aa Gaya, working experience with director Vikas Arora, qualities she likes in herself, future projects, and more.

What role are you playing in the film Na Jaane Kaun Aa Gaya?
I’m playing the character of Tina in this film.
So, how did you get on board with this film?
It was all through a regular process of auditions. I was going through various auditions and meetings; meanwhile, I got a nice script. When I sent the audition scene to sir (director Vikas Arora), I got a call after a few weeks. He discussed many things about the film, and thus gradually we became like good friends. And thus, finally, I came on board for this role.
What exactly inspired you to say yes to this role?
First and foremost, this was an offer of a feature film, and that too in a lead role. The second excitement was that I got to work with some old industry friends like Jatin Sarna and Pranay Pachauri. The other most important reason was my beautiful role and the shooting locations.
How was your working experience with director Vikas Arora in Na Jaane Kaun Aa Gaya?
He’s a gem of a human being. So warm, witty, and welcoming. After my audition, we met, spoke, and instantly hit it off; great camaraderie with him. He has a quiet resilience about him; the way he keeps everyone in good spirits and keeps a sense of calm is very positive. It gives you the space to explore as an actor whilst keeping the narrative in place. He was amazing to work with.

When did you first realize that you should try your luck in acting, and how easy or tough was it to get an entry into the film industry?
It was somewhere around 2016 when I got the opportunity to travel for a show for the Discovery Channel; we had to travel and talk about our experiences and act as well since it was a part-fiction show too. It came very naturally to me since I’d always been into plays and art in school and college years. After the show happened, I decided to pursue acting for good and worked in a production house too to understand the back end of things. Slowly I bagged my first show, criminal justice, and from then on there was no looking back. It’s not luck; it was pure manifestation and hard work. When one dreams hard and works towards it, luck favours the brave, so it was that.
What attracts you more? Money, beauty, or intelligence?
Intelligence I would see, and not bookish intelligence, but emotional intelligence of a person. Beauty also shines better when you’re intelligent and knowledgeable. Money is important, rather very important, but that’s never the first thing that appeals to me in a person.
Which three qualities about yourself do you find most appealing?
I’m resilient, sensitive and a goofball. Nice to keep a mix of wit and humour in your life.
What are your upcoming projects?
I have a Webseries starting out, it’s called Dhaichaal, it’s a political drama. That’s all I can shine light on at the moment.
Would you like to give any message to the readers of “Bollywood Town”?
I would request people to watch my film Na Jaane Kaun Aa Gaya, releasing on 6th March. It will be a great encouragement for all of us because we have given our best in this film that will definitely entertain the audience, and people will love it.
