Legendary director David Dhawan’s “Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai” takes you to the era of the ’90s when David’s movies were ruling the hearts of the cinegoers. But will that magic still work with the current generation? Let’s try to explore it…
The story revolves around Jass (Varun Dhawan), a professional photographer who falls in love with Baani (Mrunal Thakur). Everything goes well, so finally they get married, but a twist starts in their lives when Baani denies having kids even after five years of marriage. She still wants to focus on her career. This issue leads to divorce. The court gives them six months’ time to rethink the issue. During this period, a major twist comes in their lives: Jass falls in love with another girl, Preet (Pooja Hegde), a London-based girl of Indian origin. The story is still far away from the climax. Whatever happens at the end is the real crux of the story. So, to know what happens at the end, one must watch it.
Actor Varun Dhawan always gives a strong, energetic performance, although most of the time it looks overdone. Overacting can occasionally irritate the audience. On screen, Mrunal Thakur appears attractive and gives a compelling performance. She had performed her part to the fullest. However, the naive appearance of stunning Poona Hegde on film is also quite alluring. She has given it her all, and her performance is satisfactory. In addition to the main cast, actors such as Jimmy Shergill, Manish Paul, and others have performed well in their roles.
Songs are quite romantic, and most of them are remakes of old hit songs. These songs actually enhance the beauty of the film.
Overall, this is an average film. Due to a very common story and a very predictable climax, the movie fails to hold the attention of the audience. Still, the movie can be recommended to watch once if you are a fan of Varun, Mrunal, or Pooja.
