Actress Debinna Bonnerjee, known for her iconic portrayal of Sita in the Ramayan TV series, has launched a film production house called Debguru and is embarking on a new chapter as a producer alongside her husband, Gurmeet Choudhary. In an exclusive interview with Yogesh Mishra, she spoke about how her friendship gradually grew into love with Gurmeet while working on the Ramayan set, her dream destination, upcoming projects, and more.

When did you first realize that you should try your luck in acting, and how easy or tough was it to get an entry into the film industry?

I always had a deep interest in performing and being in front of the camera. When I came to Mumbai to pursue acting, I knew it was something I wanted to give my heart and soul to. But entering the industry and finding your place is never easy. There are rejections, uncertainties and moments when you question yourself. I believe patience, hard work and staying true to yourself are very important. Every experience, whether good or bad, has taught me something and helped me grow as an actor and as a person.

After playing the iconic pair Ram and Sita in the “Ramayan” TV series, how and when did you decide to marry in real life too?

Life has its own beautiful way of bringing two people together. Gurmeet and I met while working on Ramayan, and our friendship gradually grew into love. Playing Ram and Sita was a very special experience, but our real-life relationship developed naturally, beyond our characters on screen. We got married in 2011, and looking back, I feel grateful that a professional journey became such a beautiful personal one. Today, after all these years, our relationship continues to grow with friendship, understanding, respect and love.

What is your dream destination?

I love travelling and exploring new places, especially when I get to experience them with my family. For me, the beauty of a destination is not just about its landscapes or luxury, but also about the memories we create there. I would love to explore more of the world with Gurmeet and our girls, experience different cultures and give our children beautiful memories that they can cherish forever.

Which three qualities about yourself do you find most appealing?

I would say resilience, empathy and the ability to keep learning. I have faced different phases in life, and I think resilience has helped me move forward without losing faith in myself. I also try to be empathetic and understand people without being judgmental. And finally, I believe in evolving. Whether it is as an actor, a mother, a wife or an individual, I feel there is always something new to learn and a better version of yourself to work towards.

In case you have to change your industry, then what would that be?

I think I would still choose something creative. I love storytelling, connecting with people and expressing myself, so I could see myself exploring entrepreneurship or something related to wellness and personal growth. I have always believed that life is not limited to one identity. As we evolve, our interests and aspirations evolve too. I would love to keep discovering new things while doing something that gives me a sense of purpose.

What are your upcoming projects?

There is a lot that Gurmeet and I are excited about right now. Along with our individual professional commitments, we are also exploring a new chapter as producers through our production venture, Debguru. It is exciting to be involved in the creative process from a different perspective and to work towards telling stories that connect with people emotionally. Our film Tum Mere Ho is also a very special project for us. We are looking forward to the audience’s love and support as we continue to explore new opportunities in entertainment.

Any message for the readers of Bollywood Town magazine?

I would like to thank all the readers for their constant love and support. Our journey in this industry would not be the same without the audience that has stood by us through different phases of our lives and careers. My message would be to believe in yourself, keep working towards your dreams and never be afraid to start something new. Life will have its challenges, but if you stay grounded, work hard and hold on to your faith, there is always something beautiful waiting ahead. Lots of love to everyone!
