Director Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar is one of the finest action-packed, enthralling, and engaging movies of the year. Although every actor has given their best, honestly speaking, Akshaye Khanna and Ranveer Singh are the heart and soul of the film.
The story revolves around Hamza Ali Mazari (Ranveer Singh), an Indian spy living in Pakistan on a mission. He joins the gang of renowned goon of Karachi, Rehman Dakait (Akshaye Khanna), whose image and history are flooded with blood. He is not just a Baloch community supporter but also helps local political parties to make them win the elections. Ajay Sanyal (R. Madhavan), Chief of IB, controls the situations from the New Delhi office, but due to a lack of willpower of the ruling government or some of their past mistakes, Sanyal fails on various fronts, be it the Kandahar plane hijack, the Parliament attack, or the Mumbai attack on 26/11. To come out from such a situation, Sanyal proposes some plans to the PM, out of which only one plan, called Dhurandhar, gets sanctioned. Sanyal starts his mission of taking revenge for every possible mischief and conspiracy of Pakistan. Climax is the real crux of the story, so, to know what happens at the end, one must watch it.
Actor Akshaye Khanna’s performance as a Rehman Dakait is simply outstanding. His body language speaks more than the dialogues given to him. The way he talks, walks, and most importantly, the facial expression is truly mind-blowing. The audience may recall his acting in ‘Chhaava.’ Apart from him, Ranveer Singh is another attraction of the film. His power-packed action sequences and the body language full of energy are quite impactful. R. Madhavan’s role as an IB chief is simply too good, and his getup and resemblance to Ajit Doval ji are quite appealing. Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, and Arjun Rampal have played a powerful role and made their presence felt. Although actress Sara Arjun’s role is small, her pretty onscreen look impresses the audience. Even actress Saumya Tandon, who has played the role of Rehman Dakait’s wife, has also justified her part. Overall, every artist has given their best.
The story, screenplay, and dialogues are written nicely and are quite impactful, but the length of the movie may be of greater concern for the audience. The movie is 214 minutes long (approximately 3 hours and 34 minutes). Despite being engaging and powerful, sometimes the audience may feel restless because Indian audiences are not habitual of watching such a long movie.
Although music does not play any major role in this spy-thriller movie, still, the soundtrack and film score by Shashwat Sachdev and lyrics by Irshad Kamil are quite appealing and enhance the beauty of the film.
The direction of Aditya Dhar is highly appreciable. The charisma of his direction can easily be seen in this film. He has taken care of every minor thing as far as historical incidents are concerned. The brutal murder scenes add power to the film.
Since the brutal murder scenes are too much and the violence is the central theme, it is recommended for weak-hearted people to avoid watching it. If you are planning to go to the cinema, avoid taking kids and heart patients. Overall, this is one of the finest movies of the year that no Indian should miss. So, why wait? Go and watch it in your nearest cinema hall.
