Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain fame actress Shubhangi Atre is one of the Indian household names in the TV industry. She started her acting career in 2007 with producer Ekta Kapoor’s Kasautii Zindagii Kay and was then seen in a lead role in Kasturi. In an exclusive interview with Yogesh Mishra, she spoke about her childhood days, how tough it was for her to get an entry in the film industry, her dream destination, future projects, and more.

How was your childhood? Could you tell us about a memorable childhood event?
We are three sisters, and I am the youngest in my family, so naturally, I was the most pampered one. There are many beautiful childhood memories. My father, who is now retired, was a Class 1 officer in PWD as an executive engineer. Because of his job, we used to live in government quarters where there were big gardens and plenty of guava, chikoo, and mango trees. After school, I would often climb those trees and pluck fresh fruits. That is one of my fondest memories—climbing trees, plucking fruits, and enjoying them fresh.
When did you first realize that you should try your luck in acting, and how easy or tough was it to get an entry into the film industry?
Since childhood, I loved dancing and acting in front of the mirror. I also enjoyed watching films and celebrity interviews. From the time I gained some understanding of the world, I knew I wanted to be an actor. I didn’t know anyone in Mumbai—it was an alien world for me. Still, I always believed this was my path. After my daughter Ashi’s birth, I finally entered the industry. Even before that, I got opportunities, but things didn’t work out at that time. In college too, I actively participated in cultural programmes. When I first came to Mumbai, I went straight to Siddhivinayak Mandir. I prayed to Bappa and told him, “You will call me here and settle me.” And that’s exactly what happened—I came directly for a shoot.
What were your turning points in your professional life?
My first show was Kasauti Zindagi Ki, which I did for 1 month and 19 days. After that, auditions were going on for Kastoori. Many girls were being replaced during that time, but Shobha Aunty and Ekta Ma’am saw my smile and cast me. That was a real turning point for me.
How important is ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain’ to your career?
Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai gave me everything. It has been a wonderful journey. I have learned so much from both my co-actors, Aasif ji and Rohitashv ji. The show made me who I am today.
Your acting has earned you multiple accolades. Do you still have any specific awards in mind to win?
For me, the biggest award is respect. I just want to keep working with sincerity until my last breath.
What is your dream destination?
I love traveling, and one of my dreams is to explore more places while combining it with my passion for photography, especially wildlife and nature.
What attracts you more—money, beauty, or intelligence?
Intelligence, without a doubt. Having money but no brains, or beauty without intelligence, is of no use. What truly attracts me is a good conversation and an intelligent mind. I value people with high IQs who are mature and sorted in life.
Which three qualities about yourself do you find most appealing?
First, simplicity—that comes from my mom and dad. Second, honesty. And third, fearlessness. Of course, I do have fears, but I know how to face them and deal with them. I like challenging myself.
What are your upcoming projects?
Recently, I completed shooting for Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai movie, which will be releasing soon.
In case you have to change your industry, then what would that be?
Acting would always be there but I would focus on quality work and I would also focus on traveling and wildlife photography.
