Director Abhishek Kapoor’s Azaad introducing two debutants, Aman Devgan and Rasha Thadani.
The story is set in the year 1920 during the British Empire, where a poor boy from a rural part of the country gets inspired by a horse named Azaad. This horse belongs to a high-profile dacoit (Ajay Devgn). Unknowingly, that boy comes in close touch with a landlord’s daughter (Rasha Thadani) and does something unusual with her in the Holi festival. Knowing the consequences of coming closer to a cruel landlord’s daughter, that boy ran away from the village. He meets the team of dacoits headed by Vikram Singh (Ajay Devgn) in the jungle and has no choice but to join them. There he plans to save poor villagers from the torture of landlords. Does he become successful in this mission? Does he come back to his family to live like a normal villager? To know the answers to all these questions, one must watch the film.
Debutants Aman Devgan and Rasha Thadani are the center of attraction in the film. Aman’s role is much bigger and has a greater impact on the plot. Rasha, on the other hand, has a smaller role but is quite impressive. Her screen appearance fetched the attention of the audience because of her princess getup and innocent facial expressions. Apart from these two new faces, actors like Ajay Devgn, Diana Penty, and Piyush Mishra have also done justice to their parts.
Since the plot is very usual and belongs to the story of dacoits that used to be the attraction of the 80s and 90s audience, it may have less impact in the current scenario. Such a kind of theme may not attract much to today’s cinegoers. The first half is a little interesting, but the second half is quite dull and boring.
Overall, this is less impressive and fails to hold the attention of the audience at large, so it cannot be recommended to watch. But if you’re a hardcore fan of Ajay Devgn, you can try watching it once.
