Amitabh Bachchan is a God to me: Sunil Shetty

Yogesh Mishra |

Sunil Shetty is one of the most popular Bollywood action hero. He started his career with a hit movie ‘Balwaan’ in 1992. Since then he never looked back. Initially he was known as an action hero but later on this multi-talented actor proved himself that he is fit in comedy genre too and films like Gopi Kishan, Hera Pheri, Awara Paagal Deewana, One Two Three, De Dana Dan and No Problem are the classic examples. His some of the hit movies are- Mohra, Dilwale, Krishna, Sapoot, Border, Phir Hera Pheri, Dhadkan and many more. Apart from being an actor he is also a successful businessman. In an exclusive interview with Yogesh Mishra, he spoke about his sabbatical, businesses other than films, favourite actor, favourite movie and more…

You started your career as an action hero but despite of getting success you entered into comedy and other genres as well. Was it part of your strategic decision or something else?
Comedy and any other genres are difficult but I knew that I had more to win and that encouraged myself to go into different genres. Choosing the right script, having good cast, knowing directors expectations made me more achievable for the same.
You are basically known as an actor but you are equally successful in other businesses too. How do you balance various professions together?
Somewhere down the line it’s pre-planned and I honestly believe that if you have a control over your mind you can actually script things for yourself. And I have a lot of people working for me which makes it go smoothly.
Now the frequency of you movie releases is comparatively very less. Any comment?
I took a sabbatical of 1.5/2 years, where I got time for myself, I got time to understand my passion into fitness, cricket, whether in squash. Did the things which I wanted to do & I started enjoying myself a lot more! Making sure my kids persuade their career & all this made myself understand better which is all because of this major sabbatical thing & I think every actor needs to go through this at a certain age which makes you understand what to do next.
Apart from Bollywood which other industry is your focused area now?
Apart from Bollywood I’m focused more into cricket, food, TV shows, fitness & off-roading.
Which is your most favourite movie and why?
My favourite Bollywood movie is Sharaabi, Mr. Bachchan’s movie.
Who is your favourite Bollywood actor and why?
My favourite actor is Amitabh Bachchan. He is a god to me, even in my phone I’ve saved his name as God.
The future of cinema is being broadly dependent on quality content. What do you say on that?
Yes I totally agree that qualitative content is one of the major aspect for a movie. The younger generation is more towards quality like biopics and movies based on true stories & not towards dramatic genre.
Given a chance would you like to join politics?
No, I wouldn’t be interested in joining politics.
