In the past, Sunny Deol has collaborated with filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi on numerous successful films. The classic instances of the pair’s success are films like Ghayal, Ghatak, and Damini. In Aamir Khan Productions’ Batwara-1947, filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi is making a long-awaited return alongside Sunny Deol, his former lucky charm. In a candid chat with Yogesh Mishra, Sunny spoke about how he did many films in the past just because his father asked him to do that, his opinion about his son Karan Deol as an actor, and more.
How many times did you do the film just because your father asked you to do that?
It occurs a few times. You can’t refuse certain things since that’s how we were raised, isn’t that right? Until and unless you truly dislike the story, you must follow your father’s instructions.
How often has your father been approached to cast you in a film?
Sometimes he used to say that, “I’m sending you the story for the sake of sending it, but you don’t do it.” (laughs)
In Batwara 1947, your son Karan Deol had a significant impact. When you learned that Karan will also be your son in the movie, how did you feel?
See, I knew what the subject was. Raj (Rajkumar Santoshi) said he wanted to take Karan. So, I said, it’s your call. Because I didn’t want to say, I want to take my son.
Would you like to say anything about Karan’s performance?
In this movie, I believe he has grown a lot. And you’ll see him in the movie as well, just like in the trailer. He’s done a fantastic job. He fears me just as much as we dread our father. He also confronted me in some scenes. We have also engaged in arguments.
