“Hi Zindagi,” directed by Ajay Ram, discusses gender equality in our legal system. The movie skillfully exposes the gaps in our legal system, which may not grant men the same rights as women.
The story revolves around four female friends, Megha (Ayushi Tiwari), Palak (Garima Singh), Jyoti (Somi Shree), and Nandini (Deepanshi Tyagi), who are very close friends and partners in crime. They do all the possible enjoyments in life, be it drinking, going to disco, or passing nights with handsome boys who they sponsor. A twist comes in their life when they gang rape their driver, Varun (Gaurav Sharma), whom they took with them on a picnic and mixed the drugs in his wine. Because they had given an overdose of drugs to Varun, the next morning they realized that Varun was dead, and without taking any doctor’s consultation, they threw Varun in the river and ran away. After some time, Varun became conscious and went back home and shared the story with his friend Sanjay (Rishabh Sharma). Both choose to go to the police station, but Varun receives no assistance when he informs the police officer that he has been gang-raped by four women. When they saw a lawyer, the same thing occurred. Varun chooses to exact his own retribution after realizing that they are unable to lawfully exact revenge due to a lack of certain provisions in our legislation. Does he actually succeed in exacting revenge? The story’s true core is its climax. Therefore, one needs to watch it to find out what occurs at the conclusion.
Actor Gaurav Singh is the heart and soul of the film. His performance is simply good. Apart from him, all four actresses, Ayushi Tiwari, Garima Singh, Somi Shree, and Deepanshi Tyagi, have equal opportunities in the film to perform, and all of them have done justice to their parts. Other artists like Sanjay Goyal and Rishabh Sharma have also made their presence felt.
The plot is well-developed, and the dialogue and screenplay are particularly strong. It has good cinematography. In addition to having a compelling plot, the movie’s soundtrack is another asset. The audience may be impressed by the melodies, which are highly enticing.
The weakness of the film is its technical aspects. Editing and graphic works are not done properly, especially in the song “Hare Krishna,” where chroma could not be removed properly. Despite being a very good song, the filming actually damaged every good thing in that. Apart from that, even fight scenes are not that natural. It seems fake and not up to the mark.
Despite all the odds, the film effectively highlights the shortcomings of our legal system, which may not grant males equal rights, especially in rape cases. It is worth seeing at least once because the movie is above average.
