Director Raaj Shaandilyaa’s Dream Girl (2019) was such an impressive comedy that people still recall Ayushmann’s role as a Pooja, and that inspired Raaj to come up with its part 2. So, let’s try to know how Dream Girl-2 is.
The story revolves around Karam, aka Pooja (Ayushmann Khurrana), and Pari (Ananya Panday), who love each other too much, so one day Pari sends her father, Jaipal Shrivastava (Manoj Joshi), to Karam’s home to fix up their marriage date. When Jaipal meets Karam and his father, Jagjit Singh (Annu Kapoor), he comes to know that they don’t have any family income and have just become homeless. Looking at the situation, Jaipal puts a condition on Karam’s family: if they can improve their financial situation and buy their own home within six months, only then will he give the hands of his daughter to Karam. These terms actually changed the entire equation of their lives. Smiley (Manjot Singh), a close friend of Karam who works in a ladies dance bar, gives Karam a fast-earning idea by becoming a ladies bar dancer. Karam had no choice but to do this, but a few people started loving him as a Pooja and started following him strongly to marry. Will he be able to come out of this complex situation? Will he fulfil his would-be father-in-law's conditions to get his true love, Pari? To know the answers to all such questions, one must watch the film.
Ayushmann Khurrana, in his female avatar, impressed the audience in a big way. He is the centre of attraction in the film and has fully justified his role. Apart from him, although actress Ananya Panday did not really have much to showcase her talents, she did well and did justice to her role. Apart from them, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Annu Kapoor, Seema Pahwa, and Vijay Raaz’s comedy took this film to the next level. Overall, every artist has done justice to their parts.
The direction of Raaj Shaandilya this time is not up to expectations. In comparison to its previous installment, Dream Girl 2 is not up to par. Despite having a good cast, a poor storyline actually damaged the many good things in the film. Even the screenplay and dialogue are not as impressive as they seemed to be after watching the trailer. Except for a few double-meaning dialogues, there is nothing that can make people laugh, but overall, there is a good attempt to create comedy in many scenes.
Unlike its previous installment, the music enhances the beauty of the film. The score by Hitesh Sonic and songs by Meet Bros and Tanishk Bagchi entertain the audience.
Overall, this is one of the finest comedy dramas by director Raaj Shaandilyaa. Although this is not as entertaining as expected after waiting for the trailer, it is still good to watch once. So why wait? Go and watch it in your nearest cinema hall.
