Fashion designer Manish Kumar, who recently shot for his calendar with actors Ankit Bathla and Roshini Sahota, started from scratch without any Godfathers in the fashion industry. He moved to Mumbai and did his share of struggle before hard work started paying off.
"Having the craft of designing is god's gift. Not everyone can be a designer. That's what I believe. Designing is all about your creativity which is inbuilt. So if you are creative, you are welcomed in the fashion designing world," he says.
Manish recently shot for his calendar which is awaited by fashion enthusiasts with bated breath. What brought on the idea of a calendar?
"When I was a child I used to see the new year calendar with new images which my father used to bring. The new calendar was one of the most important sorts of things at that time. So I decided one day I will create a calendar with my choice of style," shares Manish, who started his career with event management and modelling and ended up following his love for fashion.
The talented designer who called Ekta Kapoor his inspiration also has a role model he truly admires.
"My Favourite designer is Sabyasachi. Because he uses unusual fabrics, texturing and detailing, the fusion of styles, patchwork with embellishments in vibrant colours and most importantly he is very creative and innovative," he shares.
The issue of plagiarism has haunted artists for a long time now and Manish very strongly condemns the act.
"Copying is a very wrong thing and I think you can copy the designs but you can not copy the concept behind that design & the imagination of the story," he says.
Where do you draw the line between inspiration and copying?
Quick to answer, Manish says, "Inspiration becomes copying when you find yourself constantly going back to the original to see if yours looks the same."
