Amit Sharma is the latest singing sensation of Bollywood. He started singing from college time only and before completing his graduation he got selected in popular TV show ‘Indian Idol’. He is also the winner of ‘Waar Pariwaar’. His friends have always been supportive and encouraged him to give auditions. In an exclusive interview with Yogesh Mishra, he spoke about his childhood days, education, journey from Punjab to Mumbai, future plans and more…

Tell us something about your education and childhood days?

I did my graduation from Gurdaspur, then went on to do my MA in Jalandhar. In my 1st year, I became a part of Indian Idol and won Sony TV show Waar Pariwaar in the 2nd year. Since my childhood, I have been very fond of music and singing, so my school teachers wanted me to sing at the programmes at school. My friends have also been supportive and encouraged me to give auditions. It was a good time.

When did you realize first that you should try your luck in Bollywood?

After winning the show Waar Pariwaar, I felt confident enough to try my luck in Bollywood.

How did you get your first break in Bollywood as a playback singer?

So, our music director Joi Barua needed 2 vocalists for the song. One of them being my friend Dev Negi. He wanted a fresh and new voice as the second vocalist. So he asked Dev to bring me to the studio, I went there sung the song. But I got to know that the song has been finalized after 4-5 months for the movie "Laila Majnu". So yeah, that's the story of how I got my first break in Bollywood.

Who is your favourite Bollywood playback singer?

Arijit Singh is a good singer. Udit Narayan is someone I feel has that freshness in his voice which is completely different from the rest.

What are your current films/songs?

Haha! My first song "Gaye Kaam Se" is my current obsession.

Given a chance, would you like to try your luck in acting also?

I would definitely be interested in being a part of music videos of the songs I am singing.

What are your future plans?

I just want to do better work and be a part of good projects with the music directors I like. There are a few projects which you will hear about soon.
