As we know, director Priyadarshan is known for giving hit movies like Hera Pheri, HulChul, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Malamaal Weekly, Hungama and many more. This time, he is back with Hungama 2 starring Meezaan and Pranitha Subhash in lead and apart from lead cast, many renowned actors like Paresh Rawal, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Ashutosh Rana, Rajpal Yadav, Tiku Talsania, Johny Lever and Manoj Joshi are also in prominent roles in this film.
Despite having so many talents with Priyadarshan as a captain of the ship, do you think Hungama 2 a film that was expected from such gems of Bollywood? I think, this review may answer this question.
First of all, let’s discuss about the storyline. The story is all about Akash (Meezaan Jafri) and Vani (Pranitha Subhash). Both are college friends but due to some reasons Vani distances herself from Akash for few years. One day suddenly Vani comes at Akash’s home with a girl child and claims that Akash is the father of that girl. Akash’s father Mr. Kapoor (Ashutosh Rana) discussed the matter with Akash in the presence of entire family but somewhere he could not be convinced from the excuses given by Akash. So, looking at the situation, Mr. Kapoor allows Vani to stay at his home till the matter is not shorted out. Finally, they decide to have a DNA test to know the fact but unfortunately result proves that Vani was right. In the same time the discussion of Akash's marriage was going on with the daughter of Mr. Bajaj (Manoj Joshi). Parallel, there is another story going on with the family of Tiwari (Paresh Rawal), advocate by profession, who was married with a young aged woman Anjali (Shilpa Shetty Kundra) who is almost half of his age. Tiwari always doubts on the character of his wife and thus comedy is created in the film whenever he comes on screen. To know what happens at the end, one must see this film.
Gorgeous Pranitha and smarty Meezaan to the larger extend have justified their part in the film. Apart from the lead cast, Ashutosh Rana, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav as usual have impressed the audience with their mind-blowing performance. Akshaye Khanna is the surprise element in this film. He has done a small cameo in this film. Other actors like Shilpa Shetty, Tiku Talsania, Johny Lever and Manoj Joshi etc. could not get enough exposure in the film to showcase their talent but still they did justice to their roles. Despite having so many talents, poor storyline ruined the entire film. We can say that it was completely an unsuccessful attempt to create a comedy.
Looking at the various aspects of the movie, we can say that Hungama 2 is completely unbalanced. Even brilliant actors and music could not balance the film. If we compare it with the first Hungama (2003), Hungama 2 is not even 10% of that. There is no connection of the story of old Hungama but still audience will always compare Hungama 2 with Hungama first since the title is taken from there.
Hungama 2 is not upto the expectations of the audience. This time so many renowned actors and one of the most lovable directors like Priyadarshan disappointed the audience. This could have been better.
Overall, film does not meet the expectations of audience so, better I would recommend to see the old Hungama once again. We can say it’s a under-utilization of the talents of Bollywood.
