Writer-director Subhash Kapoor’s political drama Madam Chief Minister reveals the political scenario of Uttar Pradesh at large. This is all about politics, power and revenge.
Madam Chief Minister talks about the journey of a lower caste lady Tara (Richa Chadha) who later becomes the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. She had a physical relation with an upper caste boy Indra Mani Tripathi (Akshay Oberoi). She used to work in a college library and Indra was a student leader in the same college. Twist comes in their life when Tara got pregnant once again. She asks him to marry but due to caste difference he rejects her proposal. From here onwards their enmity starts. A situation arises when Tara had no choice but to join politics. This was perhaps the right platform for her to take revenge. She joins a political party headed by a dalit leader (Saurabh Shukla). Here, she not only wins the election but also forms a government in alliance and becomes the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. Climax is the real crux of the story so, one must see the film to know what happens at the end.
Richa Chadha’s screen appearance as a Chief Minister is simply mind-blowing. She has done justice to her role. The entire movie is centrally controlled by her character only. She is the perfect fit for this role. Apart from Richa, other artists like Saurabh Shukla, Manav Kaul and Akshay Oberoi have also justified their roles. Supremely talented Saurabh Shukla has impressed the audience once again. The performance of Manav Kaul and Akshay Oberoi are simply good.
The music by Mangesh Dhakde is quite impressive but since there are limited commercial angles in the film so music does not have bigger roles in the film. Story is beautifully written by Subhash Kapoor. Apart from story, it’s screenplay and dialogues are another strength of the film.
The Lucknow city is beautifully shown in the film. The other locations of Uttar Pradesh are also showcased beautifully.
Overall, this is one of the finest political drama films. Richa Chadha is the centre of attraction in the film. We can say it’s a simply the best movie in current scenario. So, go and watch it in your nearest cinema hall.
