Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan starrer Coolie No.1 is the remake of Govinda and Karishma Kapoor starrer Coolie No.1 (released in 1995). Producer Vashu Bhagnani and director David Dhawan are common in both the movies.

If you have seen Govinda starrer Coolie No.1, then you need not to know the story of new Coolie No.1. The story is same. Only artists are changed. Story revolves around Raju coolie (Varun Dhawan) and Sara Rozario (Sara Ali Khan), daughter of a rich and clever person Jeffrey Rozario (Paresh Rawal). Jai Kishen / Jackson (Javed Jaffrey) has played the character of a pandit who once got insulted by Jeffrey Rozario so decides to take revenge. One must see the film to know what happens at the end.

Talking about the correlations between the new and old Coolie No.1, Varun and Sara have played the character of Govinda and Karishma Kapoor. Apart from these lead actors, Javed Jaffrey has played the character of Kader Khan, Rajpal Yadav - Shakti Kapoor, Sahil Vaid - Harish Kumar, Shikha Talsania – Kanchan and Anil Dhawan as a Kulbhushan Kharbanda etc. Screenplay is written by Rumi Jaffrey and dialogues by Farhad Samji.

Two hit songs are taken from the old movie only so, we can enjoy the songs. Overall, music is good and audience can enjoy it.

Director David Dhawan has tried hos level best to copy his own blockbuster old Coolie No.1. But here, Varun Dhawan could not justify his role as a Raju coolie, although Varun tried his level best to copy Govinda in many of the scenes but he failed to do so. Many of the time he has done mimicry of Mithun Chakraborty and few more Bollywood artists but even there also he failed to make people laugh on those comic scenes. The kind of comedy which was tried to create by Varun, actually irritated audience in a big way rather making them laugh. Sara Ali Khan has completely disappointed the audience by her poor performance. Even the actors like Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav and Javed Jaffrey have not done justice to their roles.

Overall, this is very poor copy of old Coolie No.1. This is below average and not upto the expectations of the audience. This time big director like David Dhawan and the actors like Varun Dhawan have disappointed the audience. Due to poor screenplay and dialogues, the talents of many renowned actors are under-utilized. This is not even one time watch so, better watch the Govinda starrer Coolie No.1.
