His recent music video ‘Dil Galti Kar Baitha Hai’ is the talk of the town. In an exclusive interview with Yogesh Mishra, he spoke about his childhood days, latest music video ‘Dil Galti Kar Baitha Hai’, working experience with Mouni Roy, future plans and more…
Can you share your childhood memories?
As a child I was very naughty. I think music saved me otherwise I could have been something else. I was very destructive child so, my mother used to be distressed. I used to break the toys. I was in a boarding school but I used to bunk the class and ran away but yes, art saved me.
When did you realise first that you should try your luck in singing?
It's my parents who made me a singer. In childhood only they sown the seed, I don't know why it came in their mind.
Is there anyone singer in your family?
No. My father habitually sings and my sisters are somewhere inclined towards art. My mother is a backbone of the family. In such scenario, coming from a small town and living in Mumbai like city, it was not possible without the support of my parents. I had taken Music as a subject in 10th and 12th class. Nothing happened suddenly. I think this seed was sown in the childhood only that has become a tree now.
The title of your latest music video 'Dil Galti Kar Baitha Hai' is very nice. Have your ever allowed your heart to do the mistakes?
Human being doesn't do the mistakes; it is heart only that does the mistakes. Human beings know what's right and what's wrong. So, I think every heart makes mistakes.
Who approached you first for this music video? How it all happened?
This is very special song. Meet Bros has composed this. The roots of this song is from old Punjab, Pakistan. I'm known for romance and sad song but this is a kind of qawwali so, it was little difficult for me. When Meet brothers approached me for this song, I was quite excited and happily accepted this.
You will be part of this video also, who's decision was this?
This was the decision of music label. They wanted to present me in a new avatar. I was very anxious because I never danced earlier. I think, where there is will, there is way. There was very less time but we pulled it off. My fans and music lovers are appreciating and enjoying this song.
There are many good actors in this video. So, how much comfortable or dis-comfortable you felt among them?
I was very much comfortable with them. I have already worked with Gurmeet Choudhary, Himansh Kohli, Karishma Sharma and Meet Brothers. I was working with Mouni Roy for the first time but I received a lot of support and motivation from Mouni ji. They were all very supportive. So, I can say that I was quite comfortable working with them in this music video. There was lot of positivity in the group so I can say because of that I could comfortably do this song. I have already worked earlier with director Ashish Panda and choreographer Vijay Ganguly too. So, overall, it was a good environment and I was quite comfortable working with all of them.
Manoj Muntashir is one of the finest lyricists of Bollywood. He has written this song (Dil Galti Kar Baitha Hai) beautifully. Any comment?
There is one of my song, Dil Chahte Ho Ke Jaan Chahte Ho, Humse Bata Do Ke Kya Chahte Ho.... Wherever I meet Manoj ji I usually tease him by saying these lines. Manoj ji is not just a writer but he is also a very good human being. His humanity can be seen in his writing. He writes with honesty and writes it for a common man. My father is also a big fan of Manoj writing.
