July 01, 2018 Yogesh Mishra

Vatsal Sheth has worked in many TV Series and Hindi movies. He started his career from a TV Series Just Mohabbat but he got the real recognition from his debut film Taarzan-The Wonder Car, where he has played the role of megastar Ajay Devgn’s son. Few months back he got married to actress Ishita Dutta. His some of the popular movies are- Nanhe Jaisalmer, Heroes, U Me Aur Hum, Hostel and Jai Ho etc. He has won several awards for his outstanding performance in TV Series. In an exclusive interview with Yogesh Mishra, he spoke about his working experience with Ajay Devgn, role model, future plans and more…

When did you realise first that you should try your luck in Bollywood?

I actually never planned to get into acting. In fact I was pursuing my software programming studies as I wanted to become a programmer. One of my friend's mother was a model coordinator and a casting director. At that time she was looking for someone to cast in Just Mohabbat so she insisted me to audition. She said they're looking for a guy who looks like you! So I went on to audition and the rest is history.

Where do you find yourself as an actor in the industry?

I started my career in 1998. It's a long time back. I think I am matured as an actor with the kind of roles I've done. From being a chocolate boy, to a hard-hitting film called Hostel to the recent bad boy avatar I've taken up. So, I'm pretty happy with the way my career is getting shaped.

How was your working experience with megastar Ajay Devgn in Taarzan-The Wonder Car

Working with Ajay sir was an amazing experience. It was a tremendous learning experience. I like how he is so down to earth and hardworking. It's very inspiring.

Initially you have played positive characters but recently you appeared in negative character. How was this journey from a 'good boy' to a 'bad boy'?

The journey from good boy to bad boy was incredible. Initially, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to pull off a bad boy role as I had always done boy-next door, chocolate boy roles. But thanks to Star Plus and Siddhart Mahlotra, Sanjida, Simone, Ayub for believing in me, and my role in 'Ek Hasina Thi' turned out to be great! After that, I've only been getting offers for negative roles! (Laughs)

Despite of being a public face, your marriage happened silently in the presence of hardly few family members and close relatives. Any specific reason?

Being actors, we've always been in the limelight. But for me, marriage is a very sacred and personal affair. So, I really didn't want to create a big scene out of it. We invited a few guests and the event winded up within 45 minutes! Both me and Ishita wanted to keep it a closed event.

Who is your role model in the film industry and why?

There are two people who I look up to. One of Ajay sir and one is Salman Bhai. They inspire me a lot. I love the way they work and conduct themselves. When it comes to work they don't compromise. They're very hardworking.

As an actor, which gives you more satisfaction, Film or TV Serial?

As an actor, what gives me satisfaction is a great role. Whether it's a movie, a web-series, a TV serial or a commercial. Recently I did a web-series called Gehraiyaan with Vikram Bhatt and I played a ghost in it. I actually got an award for it. It wasn't a huge role but that's fine. At the end of the day, fans loved it and I took home an award. So, it's all about doing great work!

What are your upcoming projects and future plans?

At the moment, I'm working on a couple of things but I can't talk much about it right now. But I'll definitely keep you in the loop.
