It would not be wrong if we could quote Rajesh Roshan as ‘The King of Melodies’. He is one of the most lovable and respectable name in Indian music industry. His music has created history and has been loved and appreciated across the world. He has consistently given hit music for four decade starting from Mehmood’s Kuwara Baap to the latest hit Kaabil starring Hrithik Roshan. Constantly having his career graph high with hit songs in spite of flop films his songs were and are super hit. Blockbuster movie Julie (1975) has given him the real recognition in Bollywood and since then he never looked back. His hit movies include- Mr. Natwarlal, Yaarana (1981), Khudgarz, Khoon Bhari Maang, Karan Arjun, Kaho Naa.. Pyaar Hai, Koi… Mil Gaya, Krrish, Krrish-3 and the list goes on. In an exclusive interview with Yogesh Mishra he spoke about his upcoming musical show-“Roshan Se Roshan Tak” and many more…
Why did you choose ‘Music’ as a career option?
My inclination was always towards music. There are many career options for every individual, like doctor, engineer, lawyer its your keen interest that makes you choose the right option. Music was and is very close to my heart and soul and you could say music is in my blood too.
Can you define ‘music’ in your own words?
Music cannot be defined in any particular way. Music is divine, it’s the greatest creation of God in the universe. Music makes you feel relaxed and today music is also being used as medical therapy.
Which incident or turning point proved to be the game changer in your career?
There was no incident or turning point actually…I could say its all about destiny, if you are destined you would get it. So I think god had written music in my destiny. I never thought that I would become music director, I just kept on making tunes which I immensely enjoyed. I was completely lost in creating music and I got my first break in the film Kunwara Baap which Mehmood Sahab had produced and acted , and film Julie was my film to fame and recognition
Julie (1975) was a super duper hit of the time. If you were not part of that film, then…?
Then nobody can tell where I would be. Julie was in my destiny. God has already written the fate of everyone. Julie was written in my destiny. I am just no one without Julie.
After giving many hits with established film stars, suddenly Roshan family took a chance on a new face Hrithik Roshan. Don’t you think it could have been a big risk?
I think you should ask it to Rakesh ji (Rakesh Roshan). I had no risk. I was just a music director. Rakesh ji had taken a very big decision of launching Hritik Roshan. His home was also mortgaged for the film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. The distributors with whom Rakesh Ji had good business deal in past backed out and were not ready to take the film. All said and done God was kind enough and hats off to Rakesh Ji for his guts of taking that risk and the film was a big block buster and a new star was born.
What is your viewpoint on Hrithik Roshan as an actor?
Hrithik Roshan is a complete package I could say. He has that dashing looks, he has the right style, right body, perfect height and he is a great dancer too. Hrithik has managed to maintain himself and has transformed himself as per the need of the script.
Hrithik’s debut film ‘Kaho Naa.. Pyaar Hai’ was a blockbuster. Your music played a big role in that. What you say?
Giving music was my job. Rakesh Ji has put his heart and soul in the film, and I should say that due credit goes to Farah Khan for thinking of signature step and getting the best dance out of Hrithik, Farah has done justice to my songs.
