I don’t feel like a star: Pranitha Subhash

September 01, 2021 Yogesh Mishra

Pranitha Subhash is a renowned actress who has worked mainly in South Indian film industry. She debuted in 2010 Kannada film ‘Porki’ and since then she never looked back. Recently the south beauty appeared in Bollywood movies like ‘Hungama 2’ and ‘Bhuj: The Pride of India’. In an exclusive interview with Yogesh Mishra, she spoke about her family background, difference between South film industry and Bollywood, turning points of her career, things she like the most in herself, upcoming projects and more…

Tell us something about your basic family background and childhood days?

I was born and brought up in Bangalore and my parents are doctors and they run a hospital in South Bangalore.

You have worked in South Indian film industry as well as Bollywood (Hindi film industry) too. What are the major differences that you feel between these two different sides of Indian film industry?

I think, there is no difference in Bollywood and South Indian film industry. Its quite similar. Only difference is language. In Bollywood, is there are so much of packaging. Apart from film, you have to take part in so many things like going in awards, events etc. which is also there in south but I think, there is much more in north.

What were your turning point in your professional life?

I think, ‘Attarintiki Daredi’ which released in 2013 was my turning point with Pawan Kalyan. It was a highest grossing Telugu film of all time.

What has been the biggest change and the biggest challenge so far in your professional life?

Initially, I think, travelling was quite a challenge for me. Sometimes travelling as a girl, when vanity van is parked far away, it becomes little bit of a challenge. The bigger challenge is to convince parents because they are quite against the idea of me being apart from film.

What are the 3 things you like most in yourself?

1.) I am very much adoptable; I think, I can really adjust. I always said that I can travel, it could be a private jet or it could be something as a basic modest mode of transportation I still fit into. 2.) I don’t feel like a star. I really enjoy the connections with fans more than the idea of being a star. 3.) I really like to give opinions about current issues. As an actor this is really very important because you have a voice why not use it.

What actually inspired you to join Bollywood (Hindi film industry)?

I just tried Bollywood in some point of my career because it is Indian cinema’s representation after all (Hindi film industry). I got offers much before as well but then this is what I finally took up.

How were your working experience with megastar Ajay Devgn in ‘Bhuj’?

Working with Ajay Devgn sir is fabulous because I really look upto him. I enjoy his comedy movie a lot more than his action movies because that is my favourite genre. Ajay sir is disciplined and he is somebody who is very quiet.

Which Bollywood movie or song touches your heart?

There are so many but I think my favourite right now is a song from ‘Mimi’. I really loved the song, it’s so beautiful.

Due to corona pandemic everything was stuck. How did you utilize this lockdown period?

I hardly utilized the lockdown period. In a good way, I got a chance to really look into the all my family members, close friends of the school who live around my house and there was a beautiful time. I learned little bit horse riding. It has been great time. I used it positively.

What are your upcoming projects?

As of now, ‘Bhuj’ and ‘Hungama 2’ are just released. A lot of movies have been offered this month that happened after the release of these movies. Let’s see which one to take up.
